Acupuncture

The exercise of acupuncture constitutes any act of stimulation, generally by means of needles, of certain determined sites of the skin, mucous membranes or subcutaneous tissues of the human body with the aim of improving health or relieving pain.

To accomplish the same objectives, the acupuncturist can also use other means of stimulation such as:

heat: moxibustion, heat lamp
pressure: suction cups, tuina massage, acupressure, pressure ball
electricity: electro-acupuncture

The selection of stimulation points and methods is determined by the acupuncturist and based on the client's state of health, the location of the pain and symptoms, the palpation of the areas and meridians involved as well as the so-called "energy balance".
